Cambodia Denounces Thai Rocket Fire Allegation as Baseless and Irresponsible

The Cambodian Ministry of National Defense has firmly denied and condemned accusations from the Thai military alleging that Cambodian forces fired rockets into Laotian territory amid rising tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

Speaking at a press conference on the afternoon of July 26, Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata dismissed the claim as a “fabricated and baseless accusation,” calling it both provocative and irresponsible.

“The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia categorically rejects and strongly condemns this deliberate and misleading accusation,” Lt. Gen. Socheata stated. “It is completely unfounded, especially given that Laotian authorities have neither initiated an investigation nor submitted any formal complaint regarding such an incident.”

The accusation reportedly originated from posts on official social media accounts associated with the Thai military’s Region 2 Command and the spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army. However, Socheata highlighted inconsistencies between the two sources. While the regional command directly accused Cambodian forces of launching rockets into Laos, the Thai Army’s spokesperson claimed there was no confirmed information available.

“This contradiction reveals a troubling lack of coordination and consistency within the Thai military’s communication structure,” she added.

Cambodia maintains that it is committed to peace, regional stability, and dialogue with neighboring nations, and urges all parties to avoid misinformation that could escalate cross-border tensions.
